Monica Mitchell
Welcome to Mrs. Mitchell's
8th Grade Science Class!
This will be my 9th year teaching middle school science, and my 5th year with Georgetown ISD. I have a class pet named Penny the Python, and also keep an aquarium with fresh water shrimp in class. I look forward to teaching my new group of 8th graders this year!
My Background:
I graduated from Texas A&M University (Whoop!) in 1996 with a degree in Wildlife Ecology. Spending almost 20 years in the animal care field working as a zookeeper, animal technologist, and eventually an animal manager, my animal experience includes work with penguins, a variety of other birds, reptiles, rhesus monkeys, and chimpanzees. I have worked at Sea World of Texas, the Dallas Zoo, and the last 11 years of my career was spent at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, Science Park in Bastrop, TX.
After becoming a mom, I decided to make a career change and obtained my alternative teacher certification in 2015. I participated in the TRC as a mentor in 2016-2017, and created 8th Grade science curriculum for TEKS Resource System in 2017-2018.
My family and I have been residents of Georgetown for 8 years and we absolutely love the community. I have been married to my husband, Chris, for almost 25 years. We have faternal twin 17 year old boys that will be SENIORS at Georgetown High School, and two rescue dogs, Ellie and Murphy.
